    Originally called the Kabul Medical Library Project, Books With Wings has connected Canadian university students and donated medical books to the Al-Beeruny University medical library in Afghanistan.

  • United States Book Exchange (USBE)
    The United States Book Exchange (USBE) supplies back issues of scholarly periodicals, trade journals, popular magazines and other serials to libraries worldwide. Each week USBE sets aside hundreds of bound volumes and thousands of unbound issues of periodicals for free distribution to libraries in developing countries and libraries in all other locations that have severe budgetary problems. Included in the selection are periodicals in all academic fields as well as magazines of popular interest.

  • World Health Organization Health Literature Exchange
    The International Health Literature Exchange is an international exchange of health science and related publications, including books and periodicals. The exchange operates between individual libraries, connecting libraries in the developed world with those in developing countries.

  • World Health Organization Blue Trunk Libraries Program
    The Blue Trunk Library has been developed by the Library of the World Health Organization (WHO) for district health centres in Africa. The collection, which is organized according to major subjects, contains more than one hundred books on medicine and public health. The books are collected by librarians at the WHO, rather than donations.

    The Health InterNetwork Access to Research Initiative (HINARI), was set up by the World Health Organization (WHO). The WHO work together with major publishers to ensure free or very low cost online access to the major journals in biomedical and related social sciences to local, not-for-profit institutions in developing countries.

    The International Network for the Availablity of Scientific Publications (INASP) aims to assist with information access and distribution to drive sustainable and equitable development. They are a networking organisation which aims to improve information access for sustainable development by sharing, networking, supporting local publishing, and training information professionals.
