Remote Access: Distant Libraries of the World

Visit four libraries from across the globe and experience the passion and creativity  for gaining access to information.  While describing how people from remote areas have built a unique information system, Paul Francescutti (Producer) takes you on a journey  from the jungles of the Amazon to Donkey Mobile's in Kenya.

This program is available for sale at www.remoteaccess.ca .

Each library association featured in this documentary will receive 5% of the net proceeds.

Yvonne Appiah, Executive Director from CODE

It is with great honour that Yvonne Appiah, the Executive Director of CODE, spoke at the University of Western Ontario in March 2006. This event was co-sponsored by Librarians Without Borders (LWB) and the Canadian Library Association (CLA) Student Chapter at Western.  Read more about this event.

CODE works with 13 partner organizations in Africa and the Caribbean. In addition to shipping materials and setting up libraries, CODE strives to build and strengthen indigenous book publishing industries -- in 2005, they published 100,000 magazines and purchased 160,000 books from local industry publishers.

Some photos shared by Ms. Appiah depicting various CODE-supported libraries throughout Africa, including a donkey-powered book mobile:
