Thank you to all who came out to the Canadian Library Association (CLA) poster session! It was a wonderful opportunity to meet our current, new and prospective members and most importantly, speak about how we can make a difference in the global library and information community.

We would also like to thank everyone for your donations and support.

Special Libraries Association Conference 2007

Melanie Sellar participated on the "Global Librarianship" panel, hosted by the Social Science Division at SLA's 2007 Conference in Denver. Other panel members represented U.S. Peace Corps and Lubuto Library Project. The session, described as "Hear first-hand how colleagues aid libraries and librarians in developing countries", was extremely popular with nearly 100 enthusiastic listeners in the audience. Download the presentation slides at http://sla.dsoc.googlepages.com/Sellar2007LWB.pdf .

Quebec Library Association Conference 2007

Rebecca Jansen was a keynote speaker on May 5th for the Quebec Library Association’s annual conference in Montreal. Rebecca provided a showing of “Remote Access: Distant Libraries of the World” to an enthusiastic audience resulting in new interest and support. The slides for this and other conference presentations are posted on the QLA site at http://www.abqla.qc.ca/conference.html .

Canadian Library Association Conference 2006

Some highlights:

  • We met with LIS students from McGill, Dalhousie, Toronto, and UBC at the LWB Student Social, held at the Elephant and Castle Pub. We spoke about some of our challenges and how students in particular can get involved.
  • LWB volunteered at the Stephen Lewis Foundation table as well as our own LWB donations table at the reception following the Lewis' keynote speech. We received many monetary donations and huge support, and we would like to thank everyone who stopped by to share with us their experiences and excitement.
  • The poster session was especially exciting for LWB.  We had the opportunity to further expand on our challenges and efforts with those who were eager to learn more. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to show their support, offer ideas, and join the organization.

LWB would like to thank everyone again for your incredible energy and encouragement and to welcome new supporters that resulted from our conference activities. You are key to our work  -- we could not keep going without you!
